WorkSafe Victoria
How might WorkSafe Victoria proactively respond to the forces impacting the future of work, medicine and community? Working within the WorkSafe Victoria Innovation Team, we took part in a speculative futures research project that defined key principles for future organisational decision-making and design.
The Problem
As WorkSafe Victoria embarked on a long term transformation, with a plan to implement new technologies that would enable significant improvements in the experience of injured workers, it was critical to understand forces that would be shaping the future of work and medicine.
Those forces could significantly impact the design of the new products and services that would leverage the new technologies being implemented.
The Process
In collaboration with internal and external experts, specialists in futures design and a team of designers, we mapped significant trends permeating the future of work and health, drawing possible and preferred future alternatives.
After understanding the likely scenarios, we developed design principles and key opportunities the Innovation team could leverage while building new products and services that are part of the Transformation program.
Outcomes
The Innovation team incorporated the design principles into the new products and services, driving the preferred future alternative into reality.
The set of principles and opportunities also helped guide WorkSafe's Venture strategy, directing the investments in startups and partnerships.
